The Perfect Martini Evening

— on space, ritual, and the launch of Ylse at Karlavägen 42

Some evenings are planned. Others are composed.

When we opened the doors at Karlavägen 42, we wanted to create more than a launch event. We wanted to create a feeling. An evening where the room, the materials, and the people interacted — where every detail was chosen with the same care as a perfectly tailored seam on our headboards.

And at the centre stood the ritual: the perfect martini.

The Room First

Everything begins with the room.

The lighting was dim, but never dark. The textiles took their place, absorbing sound, softening the architecture. The colour palette was deep and cohesive. Nothing shouted — everything conversed.

A home should not impress. It should embrace.

At Karlavägen 42, the headboards became a backdrop for encounters — for conversations that took their time, for glances that lingered on details.

The Importance of the Glass

A martini is a study in balance. And that balance begins in the hand.

We chose glassware from Bobo — with the right proportions, the right weight, the right silhouette. A glass that doesn’t distract, but elevates. When the form is right, nothing more is needed. Only precision.

Bobo is a destination for carefully curated design — where form, function, and feeling meet in a refined yet confident aesthetic. Their selection moves between the timeless and the contemporary, always with a focus on quality, materiality, and proportion.

The Craft Behind the Bar

For the evening, we collaborated with bartender Mathin Lundgren, whose work is defined by discipline, respect for ingredients, and an almost architectural sense of structure.

A martini, when done right, is reduced to its essence. Perfectly chilled. Precisely mixed. Served without excess. Ideally by a professional.

It’s a drink that doesn’t ask for attention — yet always receives it.

YLSE Dry Martini

5 cl Roku gin or Haku vodka
2 cl dry vermouth
1 small drop of Angostura Orange bitters

Measure the ingredients into a mixing glass.
Add ice and stir until properly chilled.
Strain into your chosen glass — preferably straight from the freezer.
Garnish with lemon zest and/or an olive.

Serve and enjoy. Voilà — the perfect martini.

The People

A room is never stronger than the energy that fills it.

Throughout the evening, creators, designers, long-time clients, new faces, and dear friends gathered. Conversations moved between textiles, proportions, a sense of hotel living, and personal expression. There was a clear presence — people who truly saw the room, felt the materials, held their glass just a second longer.

That’s where the magic happens. When design is not only observed, but experienced.

The Ritual

A perfect martini evening is not loud. It is self-assured.

It is about:

- A room with integrity
- Objects with weight and history
- Glassware that feels right — thank you, Bobo
- Craftsmanship without compromise
- And people who appreciate nuance

At Karlavägen 42, this is exactly what we wanted to show — that aesthetics are not surface. They are care. They are structure. They are a feeling.

And sometimes, it all begins with a perfectly chilled martini.

See you again — and we wish you a beautiful weekend 🍸
